"Labeled" By Jenni Linn

Labeled gets ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5
I had the pleasure of reading a book written by a new Author, in a genre I do not normally read. I typically read fantasy novels, and thrillers. ( YA/ Adult) I opened this book with an open mind and an open heart. I was drawn to the book immediately because I grew up in the car world. My late Grandfather loved to drag race and to build cars. The bond the men in my family had over talking shop and working with motors is one that I truly understand on a deeper level. The book “Labeled”, drew me in and I was pleasantly surprised.
When you grow up in a small town like Great Meadows, you learn to create your own entertainment. You can either spend your time getting high, partying at the Field, or working on cars. For Veronica Russo, there’s a certain solace found underneath the hood of a car. As the youngest sibling of the Russo Family, Veronica is under the watchful eyes of her four older brothers. Four very protective, very overbearing, and very outspoken brothers. Every guy in town knows Veronicas label: Strictly Off-Limits. They have succeeded in enforcing it; running off every guy that so much as looks in her direction. That is, until Chase arrives back in town. Close family friend and motor head, Chase Daniels, returns from his deployment and his world is turned upside down when he comes face to face with Veronica again; shocked to find that she is all grown up. The more he surrounds himself in her company, the more he feels an intense pull towards her. There’s just one problem—his best friends won’t allow it. Is the fallout of a life-long friendship worth the possibility of something more? -Jenni Linn
The main character, Veronica, grew up in the car world and I found that relatable. I immediately became engrossed in the book and with a strong need to know what happens next. The characters felt like I had known them for years. Veronica’s brothers were so believable and funny I couldn’t help but picture them in my mind. I tend to get really distracted when reading and especially if it is a new Author. I find it hard to keep myself focused as the writing can sometimes get very bland. Sometimes the writing can become more like a conversation between people and not a very detailed story. Due to this issue and lack of description and connection to the characters many books were never finished on my list. ” Labeled”, was not one of them! The adrenaline pumping through my veins during some of the moments, kept me anxious and on my tippy toes. I did not expect to like this book so much and I am still rather coming down from the adrenaline rush it gave me. In fact I read this book in one day. A book needs to have a few things that make it a great book and those things are: realistic characters that make the reader become invested in what happens to them, believable circumstances and situations; and finally it needs to have an Author who pays attention to detail. I can positively say that this book has all of those points. Jenni Linn created characters that kept the reader interested and longing for more information from chapter to chapter. The story line was a bit untraditional in some ways but ultimately that did not matter too much because the situations that occurred were ones that could occur in real life, maybe have occurred for some before. It brought back feelings of anxiety when meeting someone new, the feeling of loss, and the feeling of falling in love. Scroll down and I will go into more details regarding the book!
( Warning: Some spoilers will be listed be low, bare in mind I will keep them minimal as much as possible.)
The characters Veronica and Chase-HOLY RABIES! This couple was so hot. In the beginning I found myself enthralled with the interaction between the two in the beginning. The details felt natural and I could truly see this happening in a real life circumstance. I used to go to the drag strip a lot and I remember seeing a bunch of young teens and young adults mingling. It was a no brainer that this book was written by someone who has been present in the car world or is very familiar with how the drag strip actually works. I could feel this coming through the pages and it gave me so much comfort. The relationship between Veronica and her brothers made me laugh so many times. I could totally see them in my visual mind and I loved being able to understand their individual personalities. Vince, Vance, Vaugn, were such amazing names! And then the last one was Veronica, her name beginning with a ” V” as well.
The chemistry between both Chase and Veronica was written very well. It made me blush and swoon all at the same time. I found myself laughing and smiling during their little comments towards one another and stealing glances. It reminded me of how I first felt when my husband and I first started dating. We were very slow in the start of our relationship and eye contact played a key part in the beginnings of our love. There is a lot to be said about a love that has little words and a lot of other moments that make it so much more meaningful. Chase’s love for Veronica was apparent in many scenes in the book, in the small things he did for her and that is why I fell in love with my husband. It is the smaller things in life that matter so big. It was a pleasure to read the love story between them both, even the sexy/steamy parts were nothing to be ashamed of reading. They felt natural and normal to read. I was thoroughly impressed, as I said above this is not my normal genre to read! The ending without spoiling was just..sigh.. just too damn. Good.
At first it felt like I was reading what would have been a script for a Fast and Furious Film. The description in the beginning in regards to the .05 seconds mostly got me, but it is also what kept me reading so it worked. There were many parts in the story in which the banter between Taylor ( The bestie) and Veronica ( Main character) was hilarious and then other times I just blank stared at what I had just read and thought, ” did this book really just say that?” But yet again, it worked regardless. Once I got to know the characters the way the talked with one another made prefect sense. So I let go of my resolve and kept reading through. They all came from a small town so of course the way they talk is casual, laid back, and sometimes a bit personal. So what?! The way the characters behaved felt, REAL. I have read countless books I call, ” fancy” books written by well known authors whose books felt less relatable and believable. I do not have many real cons for this book besides the fact that I was a little confused about the time frame between Chase being gone after he was deployed again and then his return. I may have missed the part where it was mentioned, or maybe it was not there. I also did not really understand why Chase’s dad is such a jerk, but maybe I will at a later time? Nonetheless, the description of the cars and the information given was accurate. This made me smile. Well done, mam! Well FREAKING DONE! There are women out there that love cars! Well done for making it known for the rest of us! And giving me something more to read than a beach love story.
In conclusion, I give this book a FIVE STAR RATING FOR TOTAL HOTNESS!
It is a book I read through in a day and a half. I did not want to do anything else but read this book. That is how invested I became in the characters. I will be ordering this book in the paperback version rather than my digital one that I already have on my device. Not to mention whenever the second one is available, I intend to devour that book just as fast as a 350z, on the strip.
This book is A. Book Witch Approved! ( Chase…..when V dumps you, call me.)
